Ann Richards crop

I’m a proud Texan. Some people assume I fled Texas because it didn’t suit my liberal, creative soul, but that’s simply not the case. I love my people. “You don’t know Texas like I know Texas,” I want to say. But instead, I’ll show you.

Welcome to the Patron Saints of Texas, portraits of Texans I admire. First up is Ann Richards, 45th governor of Texas. I’ve based my portrait on the event that flung her into the national spotlight – her keynote speech at the 1988 DNC convention. She was just so funny, smart, and sassy. I love her Big Texas Hair and outrageous shoulder pads. She held that audience in the palm of her dainty hand. We haven’t had another Democrat or woman as governor since her term, and that’s a crying shame. For this reason I dub her: The Patron Saint of Texas Women.

If you haven’t watched her speech you should. You’ll understand why I put a spoon in her hand, to commemorate her zinger about George Bush, “Poor George. He was born with a silver foot in his mouth.”

VOTE FOR THE NEXT PATRON SAINT OF TEXAS!

I’m already drawing the second Patron Saint of Texas, and have created a poll on Mailchimp to see who will become the third one.

Vote for your choice here.

Voting open until October 11th, 2021. The winner will be posted before my Kickstarter campaign ends.

Texas Tracts: A collection of autobio mini-comics

Hey, what’s this about a Kickstarter campaign? Texas Tracts is a trilogy of autobio mini-comics about my upbringing in the Lone Star State. The format parodies Chick gospel tracts, but the books contain wry, heartfelt stories about my experiences in Catholic school, and how they shaped the woman I’ve become. Please consider supporting the campaign and spreading the good word.
