Project Description

I illustrated and designed this crowdsourced map. The concept was to encourage more friendly traffic between the vibrant NDSM area and my home neighborhood of Tuindorp Oostzaan, which was originally built to house the shipyard workers from the NDSM dockyards. The prompt for residents was to send in their favorite places in the Tuindorp neighborhood. I picked seven spots which are all free and open to the public and also illustrated several unique landmarks as icons. I listed quotes from the residents (in Dutch) about their featured nominations on the inside flap. On the back of the brochure, we urge outsiders to come and smell the roses, play like a kid again, and discover this little corner of heaven in Amsterdam Noord.

BUURT VERBINDERS is a joint initiative of the City of Amsterdam and Treehouse NDSM to connect the NDSM area with the nearby community of Tuindorp Oostzaan.
